Did you check the forecast for the next days, or even better – weeks? Or even… months? There is nothing new coming – rain every day! That is why in England we have so many descriptions and synonyms for rain.
Any way – keeping this rainy weather in the mind it cannot be surprising, that drainage within the landscape is probably the most important thing to consider on every single project!
The rainwater run off has to be done in a way, so that no water holds on the patio or driveway. There are many ways we can do this. First one could be a camber or creating falls to each side or, ideally, a fall away from the house, but if it does go towards the house, then the special drainage channels should be used.
If the drainage goes towards the road, then it is a good practice to capture the water in such a drain and send it to a soak away, whenever possible.
Inspection of chambers is very important and easy access to them is critically important. They should not be covered, instead it is better to use special surrounds that both – allow access and able to cover with the paving that matches the rest of the project.
Finally, the water run off could be a huge advantage to you, so send it to the plant and shrub beds to give added supplies of fresh rainwater.
